An Interesting start to 2013!!!
It’s been a while since I’ve written. Since then I began and completed my first year of a four year Bachelor of Music degree. During the school year, I had musical and physical challenges but I made it through.
The beginning of 2013 had an interesting start.
I decided to get back into shape by taking the Introduction to Ballet class and tryout for the extramural volleyball team. So, on January 10th, I did ballet and a few hours later I went to the volleyball tryouts.
Approximately 30 minutes into volleyball tryouts, we were spiking. I went up for possibly my third attempt. I prepared and took the necessary steps that I had learned back in high school. I landed on my feet and pushed off. As I went up my right knee bent, as usual, then something happened. I thought I hit the volleyball pole but opened my eyes and realized that I was too far from it. I came down and moved to the other side of the net.
My right leg was warm and numb from approximately mid-thigh to mid-calf. I also felt my knee cap shift upward. I asked if something had hit me and I was told no. I was helped up by the coach and another person trying out. I was put in a chair and given ice for my knee.
I was hoping for a sprained ligament; however, I also knew that it was possible that damage was done to my tendon. If this was true, I knew I would need surgery. Well, later on, it was confirmed - I ruptured my right patellar tendon and I needed surgery to repair it. I had never had surgery before, so once I learned I had to have it, I cried. I also cried when I was being rolled out of my room for the operation.
Here is a picture of a normal knee in comparison to my knee when I got injured:

On January 12, 2013, in the morning, I had the surgery.
Before the surgery:

After the surgery:

A few days later, I was allowed to remove some of the bandages. I had two full length coverings and three coverings on my leg.

Milestones:
February 21, 2013 - began walking with crutches (out of the wheelchair!)
March 14, 2013 - Drove a car for the first time since January 10, 2013
April 4, 2013 - walking without adjustable brace and crutches
I have more pictures and videos of my progress through this journey in my life. I will most likely make a video and post it on my YouTube channel - MusicBeautyFood.
That’s all for now!
